Nope...sooner or later somewhere down the line sexual attraction develops on one person's side or both...usually the guy's. Come on! Think about it! A guy can say he wants to be friends, but if the girl ever said let's go for it, that guy would drop the friendship so fast for a chance to "get with her."
And, if you're trying to be friends with someone you've already "gotten with," then that's not true friendship anyways, because you've already been something more than platonic.

Sure they can be friends.
The only reason for guys to have girls as a "friend" is the possibility that they might end up having sex.
And the only reason for girls to have boys as a "friend" is the fear.Fear that they might not be eable to find a another partner, and that is when a male "friend" comes in handy.
So now you know what lies behind this so called frienship, you will probably be eable to answer your own question.
Are the friendships based on those ideas platonic friendships?

For most guys, they can't be friends with girls. They end up having feelings for them. Not all guys, though. It depends on the guy and girl, I guess. I've only had 1 completely platonic friendship with a guy in my life. It's pretty sad.

yes.... on the long term, usually a guy starts a friendship with a girl when:
a) is attracted to her
b) is attracted to her friend (i met most of my male friends this way)
after any of these options, a true platonic uninterested friendship can blossom with some time.
when i heard about this theory in "when harry met sally" (during high school) i thought it was plain stupid, but i found out later it wasn't that stupid after all (during college). of course, there are good exceptions anyway

I'm female but some of my closest friends have been straight guys or gay women. As long as you are both clear that it's not romantic or sexual it can work just fine.
I have noticed though that sometimes friendships start because one of the two has a sexual or romantic interest in the other one at first, but over time that can become friendship when they realize the other person isn't interested romanticly.

Yes of course. In fact, I'd like to have more male friends. It's prob better to have 1/2 male & 1/2 female friends. Then you can get advice fr both sexes on certain topics. A friend of mine (male) told this girl who he slept w/ that he told me bout her but that I wouldn't say anything. He just wanted to talk to another girl to get advice. It's also easier to be friends w/ the opposite sex if it's not possible to hang out. I talk to my guy friend everyday on the phone... even tho my bf gets jealous... BUT, I think that it's ok to be friends w/ him since I was friends w/ him long b/f I met my bf.

In the words of Billy Crystal in "When Harry Met Sally", "Men and women can never be friends, because the sex thing always gets in the way." Meaning that even though you think you are friends, the thought of sex, or the want of sex will, no doubt, always get in the way at some point.
