I drive a 2002 Mustang GT, it has a button to turn on and off the traction control system. Is it better to have it on or off? When is it convenient to have the traction control system off?

I leave mine on. I was told by the dealer that it won't hurt anything to have it on all the time........And now I never have to worry about slipping and sliding when I start to move.

The mustang's traction goes like this- when the rear tires start to spin, lose traction, etc. The computer takes timing out of the motor, cuts fuel to the motor, and the rear brakes are applied. If you try to do a burn out, the motor will begin to "die". Just turn off the traction control and your all set, let the burn-outs comense. Usually you would have it turned off when warming your tires before staging at a drag strip. Otherwise, for everyday driving, its fine. Leave it on in rain, snow, etc. It's better than nothing. I have an 01 and have just got into the habit of turning off after I start the car. You can get a programmer or even a specific purpose unit that will keep the traction control off until you push the button. It works just the opposite of the factory set-up, and doesn't turn the traction control back on every time you start it.

Traction control, as the name inplies is for increased traction in slippery conditions such as snow or rain. You can turn it off when road conditions are dry !! HTH. Alternativly your owners manual should explain this function as well

My friend turns it off to burn rubber when dragging from red lights. In a mustang like that you have the option of being safe or just showin off
