What are the benifits to becoming a notary?

It depends upon the state in which you wish to become a notary. When I worked as a paralegal in a law firm, my company paid the small fee and bought me the official stamp. It was convenient for them to have a notary around to validate signatures, but I otherwise received no compensation for my notary services. In other states, I understand that a notary can charge a fee for his/her services. I heard that in Lousiana, a notary has to be an attorney. Check with the courts in your state to determine how they view a notary's duties to see if it is something you want to do.
