If you have done nothing official to change your name from what you have been given since birth, then that's your legal name. Marriage does not automatically change your name. When you marry, you have to notify Social Security or the Dept. of Motor Vehicles, for instance, that you wish to change your name. I did so when I married my first husband. When I divorced him and remarried, I did not choose to change my name to that of my second husband, so I did nothing. Therefore, my current legal name is the name I took when I married my first husband.

you will have to go to the county court house where you were born, or you can go on line, for birth certificate. You will have to have a credit card to pay on line. It will give you directions on what you will need. One is copy of your drivers license or state id. They will give you the form to fill out to send with the rest of the information they request.

Legal name is the same unless you have changed it with the ss# office, in order to change your name you must have your marriage license and 2 forms of id.

To find yours or someone else's? Where you adopted? Or you just don't have one? Contact the state in which you were born. Check with the adoption agency. Or if you don't know it...I'm sure there are some type of support groups for that sort of thing.
