Cheering and support. People scream because they can't just whisper congratulations from 50 feet away.

It is usually people who are friends of the Graduate and they are very proud and supportive.. it is sad because some people do not have that sort of support or that many friends.. I usually do it for everyone.. but you get tired after a while.. they should ask that applause be held until after the graduates all get done and then applause for everyone.. but that is hard to do.. so if you are at a graduation.. when you don't hear much shouting for someone.. chime in and make that person feel special also.. it will make you feel good for doing it.. :)

Well apparently if they are at an event such as a Graduation they are more than likely shouting and screaming for their family member/friend or whom ever Graduation they are attending. That's what people do at Graduations.

They want to let that person and everyone else know how proud they are of them for staying in school and getting the education they will need to move onto college or the workforce.

Well it depends on what they are screaming...if they are cheering that is because they are happy for them, and if they are shouting profanity or booing!!! then we all know what that means.

You cheer to let your friend know that you are proud of them. Most people cheer at success.
