Betta fish are extremely aggressive. My guess is it has found something it doesn't like and is trying to attack it. Because it is constricted to the tank it goes in circles trying to find a way around the barrier and to the thing he doesn't like. If you think this sounds stupid, it's not. Fish don't have brains and so they can swim round and round a tank thinking they are going a long ways when they are not.

Betta fish are NOT extremely agressive fish. They are only agressive toward other male Bettas.

You just happen to have an active Betta - nothing wrong with that. If anything it's prob better then the non active ones.

the only time when this might raise some concern is when your betta has itchy parasites (ick or other parasites). if he does you'll notice him scratching on plants and gravel by deflecting/pushing off them rapidly using the area of their body that itches.

many bettas are just very energetic though and zip around enjoying having thier space. it is a sign that he is happy and healthy.

My betta(2001-2003) did something like that, when they get startled they usually swim kinda faster.

i have betta fish and i have read so much on them..... a betta fish that swims widely means that he feels good and his living space is to his aproval, bettas loved water in about 80 tempeture so if is hot the happier they be,and they also very clean fish they hates it when their bowl is dirty i clean my bowls every two days, when their happy they do dances and they blow air bubbles, they do this when they are ready to mate too,but dont give them girlsfriends because they tend to fight them.they do better by themselves.

I'm not a fish lover myself but we do have betas in the office and it sounds like fairly normal behavior. They are an aggressive and busy fish.
