Portuguese is Latino but not really Hispanic.
Hispanic refers to the American Latino cultures in the lands that were once claimed by the kingdom of Spain.
Latino covers both the American Hispanic and American Portuguese cultures
it actually refers to the language of a common religion group. until (i think it was the 1960's) all Catholic masses and religious ceremonies were in Latin. Thus peoples who's native languages were different were still part of the same cultural group.
This Shared American Catholic or Latin culture group became known as Latinos.

A Brazilian or Portuguese can not be Hispanic because their native language is not Spanish. It's Portuguese.

Yes. I go to an international school and we consider the Portuguese people latinos. And anyone from South America. At least that's how people at my school think.

I know a few brazilian and portuguese people. I personally consider brazilian people as latino, but I do not consider portuguese people as being latino.
