Poor ownership and team management.

They've had high draft picks the past 15 years yet they focused on drafting less expensive players instead of the best players available.

They just hired a new GM and drafted a Scott Boras client so hopefully they are changing their operational philosophy.

They have a great ballpark and a loyal fan base that has lost faith in the people running the team.

I know they are playing poorly, but spend your time rooting for the Phillies and their dreadful bone-headed ownership and the Royals won't seem so bad. I'm a Phillies fan but I'm off the bandwagon until they are sold. I don't care if they beat up all the last place teams, it's the same attitude and the same players and the same results and the same promises. I'm sticking with the team that should have stayed in Philly, the Oakland Athletics.

Their owner David Glass was far too stingy and controlling. Finally, he was persuaded to go out and a hire Dayton Moore who plans to model the Royals on the Braves. It would make a lot of sense for the Royals to have a firesale as the deadline nears. Right now, their entire rotation and half their lineup is composed of players that have no future in Kansas City. It makes sense to start developing players that do have even a remote chance of being a long-term cornerstone.

As long as the royals are making 100m a year for signing and how the fans arent going to games as much their not gonna get good players.

Low payroll, no fan support. Until teams like this get to spend as freely as the Yankees, or all teams are put on an even playing field, expect the suckitude to continue.
