It is always interesting to hear what people were doing, or where they were when big news items happened, therefore, I'd like to hear where you were when (for those who are old enough!):
1. JFK's Assassanation (Nov. 1963)
2. Man Lands On Moon (July 1969)
3. The Space Shuttle Challenger Accident (Jan. 1986)
4. The Berlin Wall Comes Down (Nov. 1989)
Just where you were, time of day, phoning someone, etc., as briefly as possible.

1.JFK: I was at home when I heard someone outside shout "The President's been shot". I turned on the TV and watched as Walter Cronkite sat in front of a camera talking about the shooting. And tghen he said that it was now confirmed that President John F. Kennedy had died in the hospital in Dallas as a relsult of the shooting. He paused for a moment as he spoke, obviously overcome like news journalists are not supposed to be. He appeared to be fighting back tears as he continued with the announcement. It was very emotional.
Moon Landing: I was driving my car and tuned on the radio when I lheard a rebroadcast of the words spoken by Neil Armstrong that was something like: One small step by man and one giant step for humanity. Again, very emotional although I was alone at the time. Incredible, I thought. Incredible.
Space Shuttle: Again at home watching TV as it approached the earth's atmosphere. It was clear to all of the broadcasters that everyone could be lost upon reentry if the ship re-entered the atmosphere at too high a velocity. It entered safely landed in the Ocean and was very quickly retrieved by ships ready to retrieve it. Another emotional day.
The Challanger: I was at home ready to leave to go to work but I wanted to stay just a minute longer to see the lift off. The lift off itself as it left the pad as exciting me but then, quite suddenly, in front of me, a huge puffof smoke, a splintering and breaking away of parts of the ship occcurred. The announcer become distressed. I was distressed. I did not want to believe what I just saw. But it was true. The ship exploded. I sat down and could not leave for an hour. Very emotional explerience.
Berlin Wall: When it came down I watched it on TV in my living room. I could not believe it because no one ever thought it could happen. But it did not become emotional until I visited Berlin shortly after the wall began to come down. Then it was emotional. People with hammers and chisels were chopping away at a symbol that I thought would last forever in my lifetime. I joined them and brought home about 45 pounds of the wall. I walked across the East German border into East Germany and saw the devastated part of the city myself. This was truely an emotional day.
