i have a DS and nintendogs. its a great game its like haveing a real dog but virtual. but its not like other games. if you turn it off they continue to get hungry and thirsty and also dirty. so make sure you enter your dogs in competitions to earn money. also when you get enough trainer points. you can buy new rooms for your dogs eventually you can get a beach house! or even outer space! luckily they cant die. or grow old they stay puppies for ever. but if you dont take care of them they will run away for a while when they come back love them so they dont do it again.
(i suggest you enter agility its the easiest of the competitions.)

Both my daughter's have got DSs and I must say that at first, I thought they were a bit gimmicky and would be about for long. But, after several enjoyable hours play, I can recommend them whole-heartedly.

But, I really have to know more about what you want out of this!

There are some fantastic titles currently available and also a huge amount currently in production, so lack of software is most definitely not an issue.

An alternative to a DS is of course Sony's PSP. But, I guess as your interest lies in Nintendogs and the like, this is not really a recommended alternative. Yes, there seems to be just as much software available, and maybe it does have a big screen and can play films, the software is not in the same target area as what Nintendo are issuing, so don't be fooled otherwise.

Nintendogs is a massive game with some great detail and I'm confident that you would spend hours and hours playing this should you buy it.

Also, current games you must also consider for the future (based on your like of Nintendogs) have to be:
Animal Crossing Wild World,
Lost in Blue,
Another Code,
Sims 2,
Trauma Centre: Under the Knife

just to name a few of the current titles.

Considering costs, I find the cheapest place (for price and quality) are the used games on Amazon. Current new releases can be £25-30, but they soon can drop down to a tenner. And for a game that can literally last hours and hours, that can't be all bad, can it?

Finally, the backlight and screen qualities are excellent. I have been playing one outside the last few days and I have had difficulty viewing things in the bright sunlight. But, I haven't found anything else that does better, though.
The stereo sound through the little speakers is brilliant, and you'll find that the battery life between each charge is more than adequate (roughly 8 hours between charges).
Don't forget also that you can play either head-to-head with a friend on another DS or online via the WiFi thingy.

I really hope this helps you. Good luck in your choice!

psp has brighter backlight than ds and nintendogs gets boring after a while because it has you rasing a dog and entering it in contests and gets old quickly. For the it has a touch screen though. If you are looking for graphics get a PSP. PSP can be compared to PS2 while DS can be compared to a PS1 or N64. PSP has action/racing games on it. While DS has puzzle/platformers on it.

Well i havnt got a DS but i played my m8s, theyre alright but my thought was to the screen braking. What if the touch screen brakes :o then it all goes to pot n costs loads to fix, oh n i never played the dog game. I would say a better hand held console for value is the PSP, i mean u can play movies, games, music and put photos on it! If u want the DS for the dogs game tho i think u shud go for it, but look around for a good deal as new hand held consoles are always cumin out :p

The DS is a good game because u r able to chat to friends and everything and the nintendogs is cool because if u cant have a dog u can have one and it is one of the best games out there plus u can enter ur dog in competeions

Graphics do not matter. Game content is much more important. The psp may have better graphics but it is seriously lacking in original games as nearly all of the psp games have also been released (or due to be released) on the ps2 while the Nintendo ds has many original games only released for that format. The psp is not interested in game content in comparison to graphics. I can be playing the game Pong on my ds for hours very simple game but highly addictive - ok the graphics on Pong are not great but I dont care its game content that matters. Big suprise the psp does not have Pong included in any of its games.

the psp is a better choice, may cost twice as much but it is worth it. It's got way more features and the graphics are the best available on a handheld gaming system the ability to use it as an mp3 or mp4 player is just an added bonus. the ds has one purpose only to play games for kids who are still into Pokemon and people who's life revolves around Zelda.

A ds is quite the revolutionary object, i do not own one, but i do own a psp. Now the ds does have its flaws, and it all depends on what games you like, but it makes up for them. But on the psp, you can download videos, games, and music. but the ds only plays games. You decide

It depends. If you're a hardcore gamer who's into good graphics and multimedia, get the PSP. If you like nintendo titles, and play games for fun. then the DS is for you. The DS delivers simple innovative fun, with games like SM64 DS, and MKDS, while the PSP is more for hardcore gamers with games like MGS etc.
Sorry for all the acronyms. google em.
