Because everyone has to see everythign as black and white. When in fact nothing really is that simple. I run into the same problem as you ALL the time. I look alot like a guy (which is why my avatar is of a guy...i tried making one from the female options, but could not find one that represented me as well). I wear mens clothing because I like that style of clothing. There are some womens shirts etc that I would ear, but I dont usually bother even going into that section because if Im shopping, Im prolly only gonna find 2 shirts there that I would wear, and I stillmay not REALLY like them. I like mens clothes. My hair is short cuz it looks better that way and is easier to manage. My voice is deep by nature and my physical characteristics are genetic, I look like my father.
I do NOT want to be a man tho. I would never even consider "the operation". And to those who suggest it to me, I can only say one thing...Why would I give up multiple orgasms, just to be able to pee standing up?

Personally, I always assumed it was because "butch" women were just a bit more masculine, and therefore more comfortable dressing and behaving as such. I never assumed they were trying to be men. Just as I wouldn't assume a man who is a little feminine and wears a pink shirt isn't trying to be a woman.
I think the answer to your question is an attempt for a person to rationalize in their mind why you look the way you do. The same rationalization could go for someone who's trying to understand, or trying to discriminate.

Most people just dont understand. My girlfriend is VERY butch. Also has short hair and dresses like a guy. She knows she is a girl and proud to admit it you just cant tell she is a girl unless she wears a white beater. I think people see that and they dont understand that that's just how some people are and thats what some people prefer. Of all straight people, guys should know that. They know how comfortable guy clothing is. It's acceptable for them to be all comfy in baggy clothes but for us girls we have to be in skimpy TIGHT clothes that we can barely sit up in without popping a button. It's stupid. As long as you know your not trying to cross it doesnt matter what anybody else thinks. Just be yourself hun.

Many people dress a certain way to indicate thier life style. Some characteristics of your style reflect that of a man. What I'm tryin to say is you're making it hard to tell unless we know you, first impressions are the strongest.

I am straight but not narrow, I have a lot of gay friends and I have to tell you that the reason people perceive that, is because of the way you like to dress infers to people that you do want to be masculine, we are seen as we project ourselves. Everyone thinks I'm a lady because I act the part in public. But I dress for my man a whole different way, and he sees the true naked me.

I think it's because some people see things in black and white, and they need to label someone by those terms. So if you're a girl that looks like a guy, then you must want to be a guy to them.

So you're a girl, then. Well, if you don't want to be a male, then why do you have a male avatar. They have short hair for girls too, and even clothes that look guyish. Don't you think its kind of a hypocritical question.

I guess that's people who are closed-minded and un accepting. I have a few gay friends who would be considered "studs" and I dont think in anyway they want to be men. Its a style and it should be accepted for what it is. Don't worry about what people think..do you.
