Your garter snake is used to eating certain foods and is probably willing to go a little longer before it breaks down and tries something else. Don't worry, they can go for weeks without eating. You could try a large earthworm, or a frog, I've never had a garter snake that could resist frogs.

If you just got him don't worry. Snakes need time to adjust to their new homes before eating. Also you'll want to do some research on garters. They need special care just like any other reptile. If there is anything wrong with the environment they are in they will not eat. A fish only diet is not very good for a garter snake. Fish don't have all the nutrients they need. They should be switched over to pink mice as soon as possible. Check out this care sheet on garter snakes. Do EVERYTHING it says. Like I said All reptile need special care. It's not just throwing a snake in an aquarium and hoping it will live. It has to be perfect.

You may want to try a different food source. If you just got the snake it may be fussy for awhile. Your snake will become more active with heat also.

If your snake is a wild snake , then let him go. If he
is in fact a pet, your local pet store can provide appropriate food
