(two seperate topics) Why is Elvis and the Black Panthers important in history?

We watched the move "Forest Gump" a few days ago in class, and i need to write an essay on some of the events. I need two more events, but i cant seem to find anything on why Elvis and the Black panthers were important in history. I know elvis started rock and roll and was supposly the best, but is there more to this?
