Atlantis was located in the Atlantic ocean and part even extended to Central America. It sank to the bottom of the ocean is a common notion and it is believed that the effects caused by the Bermuda triangle is due to something in Atlantis. It is also thought that Atlantis was a civilization that had high technology than other parts of the Earth as similar land that was known to have sank is Lemuria (known to the South Indians of India as Kumari Kandam), as a matter of fact the etymology of the name Madagascar is a hint that it was the tip of a part of a larger land mass (Lemuria). Some people beleive that a war between the kingdoms of Lemuria and Atlantis ended them both, however Tamil Nadu (state in South India) Epics clearly state that it sank in a deludge and only 3 tribes out of 49 survived in small numbers, namely Cholas, Cheras and Pallavas. The Aztec god Quetzalcoatl was said to have been a white god or sometimes described as a winged serpent. He might have been called 'white' as the Atlantians were European in appearence, hence fair (white) compared to the Aztecs. Another evidence is that the Aztecs, it is written in their myths that they knew least knowledge of astrology and science compared to the men of Quetzalcoatl. Another theory says that an failed experiment with a advanced mechanism which by our technology can closest be described as an oscillator, set problem, they theorist also alledge that the effect of the Bermuda is because of this. I would encourage you to carry your own research and read all views and think for yourself as to what would have happened. Another much supported theory, however lacks chronological base is the idea that the deludge of the Bible wiped Atlantis.

Well the legend first started in Greece and possibly Egypt so that would leave me thinking the Aegean sea , but it seems every time we discover a new place that it has a possibility to be Atlantis . Here's a few places to name a few America , Cuba , Ireland and even one theory that it occupied half of the Atlantic .
I don't believe in any of it . For those that don't know , the legend of Atlantis was first started by Plato who said he heard it from a poet named Solon who heard it while in Egypt . According to Plato the Egyptians told Solon that Greece was much older then thought and that Atlantis once stood where Athens now stands . The main problem with this story is that the date the Egyptians gave Solon was six thousands years before the dawn of Sumerian society ! But the main reasons why I don't believe it is because its mythology , the said reason for Atlantis's sinking is mythological , the inhabitants of Atlantis were said to have mythological traits/powers and the whole thing sounds like a bad urban legend : heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend .
But I went further into this then I really wanted to....

I have heard that it was in fact Santorini, the Greek Island which has been blown up by a vulcanic eruption. the biggest part of the Island vanished in the Mediterranean, and the people died. There was also a Tsunami which destroyed parts of Crete and that was the beginning of the downfall of the great Minoan culture.
Later legends placed Atlantis at the "end of the world" - meaning the Atlantic Ocean.

I feel that Atlantis was actually located in the island-rich region of Central America and that it was destroyed in a global catyclysm caused by a crustal shift that decimated the ancient civilization and caused such massive flooding that only a few 'Atlanteans' survived.
Due to the violence of the destruction, no structures of any merit were left to be able to be discovered. Civilisation fell, and man was sent back to the stone age. I feel this happened approximately 35,000 years ago.
It is based upon research I have done with various mythologies and legends, all of which indicate that very early on in their legends, a massive flood occured that was meant to 'punuish the unworthy' and that after that, a stranger would appear who was markedly different than the natives and who would teach them things that were vast and new. This same legend with variations is all over Central and South America, as well as the western coast of Africa and some of the southern native tribes of North America also.

The only source regarding Atlantis is Plato's Timeos and Kritias. According to those dialogs, Atlantis is further west from the Herculean piles (Givlardar) and before reaching the great land (today's America)

The Rosetta Stone, implies it may have been located as a land mass to the west of North and South America, which is now under water. Just saw that on the Discovery Channel.

In the hearts of millions does it really exist who cares it like the holy grail gives us something to search for and the search is usually just as rewarding and sometimes more so than the finding ..but if i had to venture a guess i would probably say off the coast of Bimini..does the Bimini road look like a rock formation to you? i have been around the ocean all my life and i haven't ever seen a rock formation like that naturally.

I think it USED to be located on the island of Thera, before the catastrophic volcanic eruption c. 1600 BC, or at least "Atlantis" is the name given in legend to that culture...
I base this on reading, and nosing around the Internet :-))
