Depression is most commonly caused by an imbalance of the chemicals in your brain. It can also be brought on by stress, something big happening to you like a family members death, a break up, failure in career or school, ect. Some doctors even think depression can run in the family, genetics.
The best thing you can do for depression is to see a psychatrist and get on some medications to correct the imbalance of chemicals. Psychotherapy, (talking to someone) along with medication can really help a person with depression.
Depression can not be cured overnite. It takes time. Some meds take 2 or more weeks to start working and not all medications will be right for you. Talk to your doctor about this.
I work in a mental health facility and I see people with depression everyday. There is help out there.
You are not crazy, insane, a lunatic or anything like that, just because you suffer from depression. You are not weak for asking for help and getting on medications to help you. Don't let anyone tell you that. Get help quick so you can get your life back on track.

Welllll it's a chemical imbalance in your brain. There's more to it than just feeling sad. People gain or lose weight, feel extreme hopelessless, don't care about anything...etc. This lasts for a long time...not just a bad day. There are different treatment options. There is medication, but there is also counseling. I would highly suggest trying just counseling first. I'm not an anti-medication person, but I know from experience that a lot of anti--depressants have really bad side effects. That's about it. Any questions, feel free to ask me.

Look, man, if it's becoming a problem you have to go to a doctor. Like that might sound weird to go to a doctor about feelings, but you dont want this to get any worse. If it's just something were your getting out of a bad breakup or something, understand that you'll be stronger from it by the end.

You may or may not need medication, but it definitely helps to have counseling to get things that are bothering you out in the open and dealt with.
