It means that you sacrifice your own needs to help others, even if it does not end in your favor....like taking on too much, saying "yes" when you have a full plate, maybe to be nice. Are you afraid of saying no to others, even if doing that extra thing does not flow with your schedule? I tend to do the same, but have become aware of it and now feel it is ok saying no sometimes, and have more time for myself and those close to my heart.

A martyr in that instance is someone who does things but feels sorry for themselves and wants others to feel sorry for them.

It means that you would let someone beat you with words and you wouldnt defend yourself ..you would take the "bashing" for another even if it cost you ur freedom...Martyrs are what get you voted to Sainthood by the catholic church...they are people who will bleed for another

a martyr is usually someone who die's or suffers for something they believe in. the missionaries who would rather be shot then to denounce their god are martyrs.

Obviously, you are not dead and you have not died for a specific belief. But in this context, I think that he means that you sacrifice things or are very firm in your ethics and beliefs. You could have done something in order to keep something that you hold dear to your heart in your life. Or you are a very strong-willed person that believes what she wants. way to go!
