Wait until he has the maturity to do it. It usually comes between 6 and 12 months. You can't force a child to develop just because *you* are impatient, although you *can* teach him that you don't care enough to respond when he needs you...

You know, I think it just depends on the baby. My 19 mos. old son just started sleeping through the night at about 14 mos., but my friend's son is sleeping through the night at only 4 mos.
Don't keep him up all day - that is a really bad idea, because then he will just be really tired and cranky, and will have trouble going to sleep. Let him nap earlier, but try to keep him up after 4 or so, if you want him to go to sleep around 8. Don't change any routines suddenly, though, because it may cause some problems with sleeping.
Check out the website Babycenter.com for advice on getting Baby to sleep through the night. There are also alot of baby books out there and websites that give you alot of information. Dr. Sears is a good one to look up.

I have a 3 month old that sleeps from 9pm until 8am. I give him an 8 ounce bottle with cereal in the bottle. Try giving your baby some cereal with his formula before he goes to bed. It works! Anyway, it can't hurt any if you just try it one time. My little one has been sleeping through the night now since he was 2 months old.

Try to make sure his naps during the day are not too long and are not too close to his bed time! Also, keep him active, using his body and mind to use up energy and make him tired....make sure he has eaten enough dinner to fill his little belly for a full nights sleep....then...
If he wakes up in the night and starts crying, dont go running in right away...sometimes if you leave them alone for a few minutes they will go back to sleep on their own! Try to make sure your babies room stays fairly dark at night (with the exception of a small night light) that way when he does wake in the middle of the night he is not stimulated further by the light. If he keeps crying, walk in and lay him back down, tell him you love him and he has to go back to sleep...then you can try to rub his back for a minute or two and then leave....he will probably get back up and cry when you leave but let him cry for a few minutes and then go back in, and without saying anything, lay him back down and walk out. Repeat this as long as it takes for him to stay laying down and go back to bed and it should work after a few nights....
I know it will probably break your heart to leave him crying, but believe me...IT WORKS!!! =) Good Luck...and get some rest!=)

Try the book On Becoming Babywise. It worked wonders for my daughter. She was sleeping through the night at 2 months.

That depends on whether you are breast feeding or bottle feeding. (Or you can pump your milk and feed from the bottle).
If you are at the point where you are bottle-feeding, you can put a little cereal in the milk before bed time. Many times, babies wake up because they are hungry. But, be sure the hole is neither too small or too big. If the hole in the nipple is too small, the milk/cereal won't come through. If it's too big, this will choke your baby.

The best advice is making sure he has a full tummy when he/she goes to bed and you wear him out during the day. Make sure he/she isn't sleeping all day and is playing as much as possible.

don't let em sleep during the day. you know those little cat naps, especially after 4pm, that way when it's time to sleep they will sleep. and at 8 months it is okay to keep them up, play with em to avoid boredom and keep em active.
