in your specific case, they're jealous. They're jealous of the fact that your dad has money. They're jealous of the fact that your dad is willing to get you a car for your birthday. Most people arent quite so fortunate.
Also, there is the socio-cultural expectation that people whose parents have a lot of money (remember 'a lot' is relative) perceive of themselves as being better than those who are poorer. It certainly doesnt help that your birthday gift is also a major status symbol. A Mercedes-Benz practically screams "I've got more money than you! I'm a better person than you!" A new Honda would not have offended people quite so much.

What would you rather? Being called stuck up, or returning the Benz? Personally I'd keep the Benz, and forget everyone else's opinions. The beauty of it is, you can drive away real far from the ones that judge you, and you can do it in style. It also depends on the year and model of this Mercedes in question. That doesn't make you stuck up, by the way, it makes you spoiled

Hmm...your name is lil_nc_hottie, you're a teen and you drive a Mercedes that daddy bought, but you're not stuck up?
Maybe you're not as arrogant as some of you friends, but it seems to me that you may love yourself a bit too much.

Hey - check out my question on Family&Relationships! I know the answer to your question is jealousy, and I'm sure that the answer to my question is the same. Would people ever admit to that? Are you kidding? Never happen. Good luck dear, and enjoy your Mercedes.

Because insecure people are always trying to prove themselves better then the next person. You are what you are and they are what they are and never the twain shall meet. Plus remember that little word called jealousy.

Because humans aren't as unique as they think they are, and I've seen enough of us to size up another of our species pretty quickly.
Biggest lie told on Jerry Springer: "You don't know me!" Yeah, we do, actually.
When people tell you you're stuck up, believe them until you can prove them wrong.

Don't tell people your dad got it for you unless they ask. Be kind and friendly and then no one will have any reason to call you stuck up!
