If I connect my laptop on my internet connection VIA wireless, and my desktop computer is connected in the internet connection too but not VIA wireless, can it transfer viruses and spywares from its system to my laptop? The desktop is not really mine , its my parents and they are not updating there computer frequently and my guess is that it has a virus. Will it infect my computer if I connect my laptop on their connection wirelessly?

If you are sharing your connection thru a broadband modem and router, it is possable. If the virus is written to replicate itself by looking for other computers via a Trojan horse - YES Or if it is a file or email and you share that across your little net work - Yes

No, it will not. As for your parents' computer, please give them this information, or use it yourself on their computer with their permission:

It sounds as if your computer has spyware and/or adware on it that needs to be removed. There are a couple of things you can do to clean it up. First, download, install and scan your computer with Ad-Aware SE Personal:

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

Just let it scan your computer, and let it remove all of the stuff that it finds.

Then download, install, update and scan your computer with Spybot Search & Destroy:

Again, allow the program to scan and remove all of the junk it finds on your computer.

Unfortunately, these two programs, as good as they are, often don't get all of the spyware out of your computer, because spyware makers design new spyware all of the time, and often write their programs so that normal cleaning programs like those above won't work. So I would also recommend you going to the Tech Support Guy forum and registering as a member, and starting a thread in the Security forum there. The experts there will clean your computer up free of charge. Sometimes on weekends and holidays you will need to be patient, as they do this on a voluntary basis:

Good luck!

No it won't affect it as long as you don't tranfer any file from the infected computer.
