Sucker fish or(Plecostomus) eat algae. If the drift wood has alga on it then, yes, but it has to be old drift wood. Never put driftwood in your tank that is from a pond or a lake. Its better if you put a algae eater into a well established tank. Your better off buying algae tablets.

Driftwood isn't food for a sucker fish but they do need it to be healthy. They will eat it but they eat to help them digest their food. So make sure you are feeding them some kind of algae wafer if there is not enough in your tank at all times.
