This has to be a trick question. Prince!
Prince is better than both his bands combined (The Revolution and The New Power Generation). Morrissey sufferred from not having been with the Smiths--who are great, but not nearly as good as any of Prince's bands or the man himself.

Two of my absolute favorites... And 'apples and oranges' as far as comparison goes!
But... Morrissey is a lyricist and singer with a not-too-extensive repertoire.
Prince, on the other hand, is a master of keyboards, guitar, bass and drums. He's an accomplished producer. He has written both music and lyrics to over 1300 songs in a wide variety of genres. He has recorded most of his albums completely solo and even recorded several albums for other people doing everything except the vocals. He is amazingly prolific - having been recording almost non-stop for 28 years now - and was a 'child prodigy' who was still a teenager when he released his first major-label album. He has been an inspiration for a new way of recording music within the record industry, and his music has been popular over a much larger part of the world than Morrissey's.
But Morrissey's great, too... Well, I don't have much use for much after 'Your Arsenal' but it was a good ride until then. Still, for me the vote absolutely goes to Prince.
