Hypertext Markup Language.
A language developed by Tim Berners-Lee at CERN labs in France, in 1989, to provide a method to present information on the world wide web. The two were created hand in hand.
HTML consists of a series of tag values inserted into plain text documents, to provide formatting and the ability to reference other documents with hyperlinks.
