The unit runs but the fan does not move. I had it checked for a routine service a few months ago and everything was fine. Could it be the condensor unit and if so is this an expensive thing to do or would it be more feasible to buy a completely new unit. As soon as I realized the fan wasn't moving, I shut the thermostat off to prevent further problems, hopefully that wa the right thing to do.

It is about 9 years old also.

I am also under eminent domaine with my home and do not want to put alot of money into it to be taken from me.

Anty suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Unless you are experienced with electricity. best bet is to have checked by professional HVAC tech. condenser fans( I guess this is your problem) are usually fairly simple. depend on the manufacture. It may be as simple as a capacitor, relay, or the fan its self. all repairs are simple and cost is varied by location and parts. should run less than $250 - $300.

same goes for the evaporator fan. This is usually the fan itself. As before depending on make and model. It runs about $150.

once you've a thermometer that you'll insert into the go back duct and the availability duct then study the temp contained in the go back and then with a similar thermometer study the temp contained in the availability duct. you need to have about a 20 degree drop in temp. even if that's way short of this or way less warm than this then you have an issue. goodman is a competent product. I have had reliable success with them and performance a goodman heatpump myself. is there condensation popping out of the drain? if a tech instructed you now to not use the hi density filter out that makes me imagine you're ravenous for go back air. yet when that grow to be the case your unit may attempt to freeze up. does the enormous copper line sense chilly and sweating? it sound like you've a heatpump because you reported it doesnt warmth too properly also. you may be taken aback what number of human beings dont comprehend the thanks to good set up a heatpump. i come across them undercharged or overcharged or stressed incorrect each and each and every of the time. examine you temp drop and go from there enable me comprehend what the temp is and that i'd have the skill which could assist you some extra

It sounds like the fan motor is bad . if you can here the compressor come on. then you probably only need a new fan motor. this is not usually a very expensive part and is not very hard to replace. Just make sure power is off when working on the electric.

Cut the power (don't trust the thermostat to do it for you, find the fuse or breaker). Clean the exterior unit thoroughly. Then move the fan by hand until it seems to move more freely. Try restarting.

first i would check to see if the last service call has any warranties and find out what the service covers

second check power it could be a fuse or a breaker on the fan motor

third check the belts

anything else would be a little more involved

That happened to my unit last year. The fan died and it cost about $600 to have it replaced. I also had the system cleaned at the same time, so I'm not sure what the actual fan replacement cost was.

It happened to me, mine was just a wire had come loose. Have a company come look at it and give you a quote. Then it is your choice if it is worth fixing.
