If it says something like Firefox is attempting to connect I allow. But sometimes I get messages like 409.233.234.98 is trying to connect to the internet on port 1026. Or 123.446.137.88 is trying to access your computer on port 0. What does all that mean and how should I know whether to connect or not. I tried just blocking everything I didn't recognize but then I couldn't connect to my radio stations for a long time. Advice please.

Hackers, Virus/Trojan will ping your computer looking for and open port to enter. If you do not know for sure that the program wanting to get on your computer is safe, then deny access or click block.Your firewall is doing its job.

When your computer is pinged your computer answers back and tells the pinging site which ports are open and which are closed. The Malware programs then use the open ports to get in your computer.

Please go to this UK site and read all about Malware infections and you will have a page that will explain all this. It also has a link to a site that will test your computer for weak spots that malware can enter. You will learn a lot and be better able to protect your computer.
