Do you think minorities would still have been given the chances they are given now?
Do you think that minorities would continue to get chances if affirmation action laws were lifted?
Just guess...how many white people are really affected by affirmative action?

I'm asking this based on the responses of whites. Those that are so concerned with being accused of racism, always refer to affirmative action as a racist act but to me it just sounds like whoever it was that called them racist, well they just got proved right.

If there were no such laws, they would have not been given any chances. As an employer, I am very discriminatory in my hiring practices. I do not discriminate against race or religion, however, because the laws are the way they are, I am forced to consider people for employment who I otherwise would have not even accepted their resume. Because of this I have been fortunate enough to acquire some very good employees..

I think that whenever a black person was in a leadership position, or particular job, they wouldn't have to wonder whether he/she was the best person for the job, or if they were not as good, but they we're "the right color".

We all pay the unfortunate price for affirmative action. Police officers that fail the general standards but meet racial exemptions are much more likely to be accused of brutality, and are more vulnerable to corruption.

Business that fail to hire smart, talented minorities are stupid, simply stupid. If they miss out, then they will lose money, and grow slower (or go out of business altogether!)

There is a long history of government sponsored racism (you think the bus company wanted blacks to sit in the back? Nope! It was the city and state govt!) and the government would be better off to let people treat each other decently. That's what people do!

Generally speaking, the equality before the Law should be a principle that lead lawmakers to foresee applicable rights and obligations under certain schemes. However, not everyone has the same chances to exercise their rights before the society and/or government.

Laws benefiting minorities just balance the chances to exercise rights as mentioned before.

Affirmation action should contemplate equal benefits under law.

I think minorities won't have the same chances they do now. IT would really change America if those laws were lifted. It's a shame that even in today's age, how SOME things haven't changed. I wish for a better tomorrow

I think affirmative action is the right thing to do. I wish more people would take advantage of it though. I also wish that there was a little affirmative action for single mothers, too, of any color.

I think so because the generation that did not handle it, was remade with us, the go-getters so yeah "we" would have what it takes to get what we want. we can handle it.
