3 men on base and the batter manages to pass all 3 of them on the basepaths? That wouldn't be a play, but you'd have your 3 outs without touching the ball.

An Example of an Unassisted Triple Play
Catch the Ball (1st Out)
Tag A Base to get the runner (2nd Out)
Throw the Ball to the other bases to get another runner (3rd Out).

But making an unassisted triple play without touching the ball could only happen if your the batter or a baserunner or an infielder/outfielder not involved in the play.

You don't understand the meaning of UNASSISTED triple play. It doesn't mean you can't touch the ball or have it in your glove. It means you're the only to touch the ball and get the outs. No other players can help you.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unassisted_triple_play

One example of this happening:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/news/2003/08/10/unassisted_tripleplay_ap/

This is the last time an unassisted triple play happened. Rafael Furcal jumped and caught a line drive, then stepped on 2nd before Mike Matheny could get back up to force him out, and tagged out Orlando Palmeiro as he tried to get back to 1st.

The reason it is UNASSISTED is because no other players were iinvolved in the play. Only Rafael Furcal got the outs, the 1st one by catching the ball, the 2nd one by stepping on the base, and the 3rd one by tagging out the runner.

Catch a fly ball, tag a forced base, and touch the runner with the ball in hand.

I like the idea of making the base runner pass three other players and then causing three outs.

If you're considering the ball in the glove as not touching the ball than this is a stupid question.

First and second. Batter hits infield fly near third base one out. Runner on first passes runner on second two outs. Ball falls and hits third runner third out. Closest fielder is third baseman. Unassisted triple by third baseman since he is deemed closest fielder
