To open a boutique, you will need money for the following (assuming that by boutique you mean retail outlet);

A location: $0-20,000/monthly, could be a Manhattan storefront or could be your garage.

Product: $0-Unlimited. You could sell giant custom cut diamonds, or lemonade, or foot care massage.

Marketing: $0- seven figures. You will first need to determine who and where your customers are, and than make them aware of your product, and entice them to buy. You can higher a marketing company, take out an advert in a news paper, staple signs to street-poles, or stand in front of your garage sale in a bikini.

Initial Operating Costs: $0-mucho dinero. You will need to pay the costs of doing business until the boutique breaks even. These include but are not limited to the costs of licensing and permits, the costs of staffing, and the upfront expenses for rent, setup, displays, etc.

70% of small businesses fail in the first three years. Most operate on tiny margins.

The big mistake people make is thinking they can make money doing what they like (a skill of theirs, a dream job). They fail to realize that the primary goal of business is profit, and that the business is just a means which should be adapted or let go of as needed.

A ton of money saved up, and a really nice deal on a loan.
Of course it would also depend quite a bit on your location, quality, and business experience. Too vague of a question without enough details. But if you have the will.... there will probably be a way. Ask other boutique owners and get as much information on possible costs or typical related problems. Keep asking, and observing, and you will probably eventually be able to make a well-informed decision on whether it is a good choice or not. Lots of time, effort, and commitment will be necessary!
Best of luck!
