5x + 1/4.5 = 18.125
(5x + 1/4.5) - 1/4.5 = 18.125 - 1/4.5
5x = 17.905
5x / 5 = 17.905 / 5
x = 3.58

I'm assuming that you're following the proper order of operations here, and that you mean:
5x + (1/4.5)
Anonymous' answer is correct if you mean:
(5x + 1) / 4.5

The original equation:
    5x + 1/4.5 = 18.125
Rewrite the equation:
    5x + 2/9 = 18 + 1/8
Subtract 2/9 from both sides:
    5x = 18 + 1/8 - 2/9
Add everything on the right side:
    5x = 1289 / 72
Multiply both sides by 1/5:
    x = 1289 / 360
Divide the numerator by the denominator:
    x = 3.58055555
Round to two decimal places:
    x = 3.58

16.3125? I'm not sure about this but this is how I solved it.
5x+1/4.5=18.125
5x=82.5625
x=16.3125.
Sad if I got this wrong but I probably have.

yes the above answer is right and to 2 decimal places it is 16.31
