By "civil rights movement" do you mean the "black rights movement"? Because the gay rights and black rights movements were/are BOTH civil rights movements.

None. In America you have all the rights as all of the rest of us. The difference is for the most part if you look at a gay person one has no clue they are gay. During the Civil Rights movement one could look at the people being discriminated against and see a difference. We all have the right to have any sexual orientation we wish. No one will dispute that. The only right gays do not currently enjoy is the ability to marry their partners. Gays can through other legal channels make the legal issues they hope to gain by being married happen without being married. As the majority of citizens of this country believe in some religion and most of those religions believe that homosexual practice is unclean or unacceptable marriage may be an issue that will probably not happen.

Where many gays make a mistake is standing up and waving their sexuality in front of everyone like a giant flag and trying to force their sexuality on others. I don't go around forcing my flaming heterosexuality on others. What my partner do behind closed doors is our business and our business only.

If a person is gay and they are happy with their choices then great. Beating others with you sexuality and trying to force others to believe what you do is wrong. that stuff should stay behind closed doors just as most heteros keep their sex lives private.

There is a enormous difference between the two. The Civil Rights Movement is for the rights of Black people who were dehumanized and enslaved by the rich land owners for monetary gains.
The gay rights movement is only a plight for individuals who wish to come out of the closet and practice same sex rituals which is an abomination against God. Please don't confuse these two different issues. They could never be similar in anything. Nor is the fight for equality the same, as Black people are still considered 2nd class citizens. So, if you are Black and gay you are a 3rd class, mis-directed soul seeking equality that should not exist.

The Civil Rights movement was fighting obvious discrimination as is the gay rights movement--but the gay rights movement will open the door for many closeted people who do not want discriminated against.
Also, I have to say society as a whole was much more intolerant during the Civil Rights movement. Gays suffer persecution, but not to the extent that blacks did.

The gay community want the same thing that the blacks wanted the right to live in freedom! it is sad to think that this is 2006 and there is still hatred of people all because they are in love with a member of same sex. This country was built on freedom and the blacks and the gays are still not free! I feel that the gay rights movement and the civil rights are one and the same! WE ALL WANT CIVIL RIGHTS!

There is nothing similar about them. The Civil rights movement was about social change, jobs, decent housing. If you or another gay man or Lesbian walked into a room, who would know? If I as a African American walk into a room, EVERYONE knows.

Here is one big difference, you can be in favor of homosexual rights, but opposed to homosexuality, while the same cannot be said for other groups.

In other words, you can think that homosexuality is a sin, an abomination as the bible says, but that doesn't give you the right to discriminate against a homosexual. Everyone sins at some point in there lives, if we discriminate against one group of sinners, then we must discriminate against ALL sinners.

They're both for the minorities who have been discriminated upon. However, Civil Rights was based on clor while Gay Rights is for sexual orientation. But in both cases, the victims have been dubbed "different"

There are major differences and some similarities. In as much, discrimination is discrimination. Generally speaking people who discriminate tend to hold on to their comfort zone at the expense of others. There is room enough at the table for everyone.

Gay rights are also civil rights. These are not the army rights, as they denote to be belonging to the civilians.
