The engine serial number is different to the VIN/Chassis number. They are both listed on the V5 certificate. The parts dealer should be able to work out the engine model number from the engine serial number. On my >206< I also found the engine serial number engraved on the front face of the engine block just underneath & to the right of where the exhaust manifold joins the engine, although the position varies between engine models.

The VIN # from your car should be what you are looking for. The Vehicle Identification Number is located on your dashboard just under the windshield on the drivers side. You can give this number to a parts locator or dealer to help you ID the engine. Sometimes under the hood on the firwall you mnay have a sticker with more information on your engine.

Your Haynes Manaul will tell you where the code is. Your library may have the Haynes if you don't want to buy it, or try ebay for a copy.
