Barter wouldn't work for long because certain goods or services would be in higher demand. The people with those goods or services would end up with all the power, exactly like the people who have the money have the power today.

Alternately, providing the necessities (housing, food, education) in exchange for working is too close to socialism or communism. While this idea works very well on a small scale, it's easily corrupted when implemented on a larger scale. Many communist or socialist societies have ended up with a leader and small, elite population who live in luxury while the rest of the nation is living in squallor.

Finally, in capitalist societies like we have today, working folks do get a certificate to buy what they need--- a dollar bill! So simply removing the currency itself will not change the fact that some people have a lot while others have very little.

Good question! Keep thinking about the question. Perhaps you'll develop the next system we use to replace money! Most people will hate your ideas b/c most people depend on money and fear change.
