I think its totally unecessary, but I guess its about personal taste. I don't mind paying for style and quality, this can mean paying for a label, but if I can get a similar look for a fraction of the cost, that will last as long, I'm all for that. I think its bad when people become label obsessed, either they are shallow or have something missing in their lives which needs filling with something more wholesome and loving

Ohhh I think designer names are wonderful....for the designer. Not only are you spending money buying their goods in the first place, but ,having spent your hard earned cash, you then parade around wearing or using it and advertise their name free of charge, so that more people can spend money and advertise for them.
I have seen so many people buy something because of the label and the label only with no regard to whether it suits them or if it is useful, they simply buy it for the name. I wonder how many would choose the same items if all the labels and price tags were removed, probably very few.
I know that a lot of designer goods are produced using the finest materials and that they are often more durable etc., but not always, and at what price?
I would say, dare to be different, wear what you like, what suits you and what makes you feel good about yourself, not to mention that it should be comfortable. However, having said all that, I am the mother of two teenage sons and couldn't even begin to imagine trying to tell them that they are having Tesco trainers instead of Nike or DC's.....so, I guess that makes me a "victim of fashion" doesn't it? Damn, wish I hadn't thought about that one....Tesco, here I come....hah, I wish:)

Matrial possesions has bcome such a big thing as they have becuase people find their identity in it.So it gives them a sense of comfort or belonging if you want. The inmprtant question though is: Who are they really when all material posessions are taken away.

I don't do name brands, I buy my clothes where I can afford them. As far as material possessions, here today and gone tomorrow, don't get me wrong it is nice to have nice things but you can't take them with you. My most prized material possessions are pictures of my family.

Imagine life without modern material possessions...
no factory blotting our landscape, no artics polluting our roads, crime would fall (nothing to steal), no idiotic show offs, no boring advertisements... sounds good to me!

OK... it all depends on how far you are willing to go.... material possessions.... well, for me, i am all for it.... generally, i like my house, i like my computer, i like my jewelry, i like most of my clothes, but for those who say they don't care.... go live naked in Africa or Ethiopia like the many poverty stricken people in those wonder full third world countries..... and then tell me you don't care about possessions...

I care about my acoustic guitar, apart from that material objects don't interest me much.
I'm definitely not into designer clothes.
