Not sure, but I think quite the opposite. If the mausoleum is in an area that receives direct sunlight, it will probably heat up and cause accelerated decomposition. It depends more on how the body is prepared before being sealed inside. The fewer liquids inside the body, the longer it will stay preserved. Extreme cold and lack of exposure to sun light will aid in preserving a body, but will slow the decomposition. An example of this would be the body of a deceased civil rights leader from the 1960s-1970s whose coffin was exhumed several years after his funeral. The body displayed few signs of decomposition. Did you know that hair and fingernails continue to grow after the body dies?

My Ex worked for a funeral home. IF the embalming is done well, then your body will last longer than just placed in the ground. However, over time, everybody rots.

I plan on being buried naturally without embalming and in a wooden casket, without a vault. Then have a tree planted over me. I don't want to pollute the environment anymore after I'm gone by putting embalming fluid into the ground.

No. Most circulate warm air through the crypts to dry the corpses out, like mummies. They will leave the lid on the casket open just a little with a wooden wedge to do this.

If they didnt, the corpse would bloat and explode, which does happen. really gross!

I think the oxygen is cut off, but there's got to be other things that affect the flesh. I've always figured it just slows the natural process way down.
