I was just curious. No matter where I go, the majority of people who seem to think my twins are very special are people (not just women) of asian decent, and I have been very curious if there were some ties to their culture.

I cannot say I have ever noticed a smug look....as a matter of fact most of them seem absolutely delighted, but these would be more people from Japan/China/Vietnam. No one from India, say has ever stoped me regarding the babies

I asked my husband about this who is Vietnamese. He said there are a few reasons. The Asian culture feel that children are a blessing and two are even a greater blessing. Also, did you ever hear about H. Clinton's book "It Takes a Village"? This is their culture - everyone pitches in with the babies so when they see one or two they feel it is also their responsibility. Vietnamese women (especially older women) just tend to be very exhuberant when they see babies (they do not hold back their excitement for a baby) and that is doubled with twins.
Also, you could just live in a place that has a high population rate of Asians and you just notice it more.
My MIL will be very happy soon when her daughter gives birth to her twin boys in about 20 weeks!

Twins are rare in the Chinese culture because the government has imposed a "one-child maximum" per family. It is to control the population growth. If twins occur they sell the baby to Tibet to make the t-shirt you have on your back right now. Also, twins are considered bad luck because it symbolizes yin and yang. On baby is evil, keep an eye on him. That's probably why when people approach you they have a smug look on their face. But feel blessed.

Well in places like China b/c of the limit on children you are only allowed to have one child. I suppose that in China if you have twins you are allowed to keep both. So they may see twins as a real blessing.

Yeah, because in China, one can only have 1 birth, & you got 2 babies from 1 birth.

Probably because in China the government only allows one child to be born to a couple.
