Floors that haven't been refinished in a while can find that what's left of their finish gets stripped by the soap and water combination. My floors were like that so I used lemon oil on them instead. For floors with a new seal it should be okay, but test an inconspicuous spot first - and test repeatedly as the first test may not show the eventual wear and tear that repeated cleanings may.

I have never used Murphy's oil. But I bought some Holloway House Floor Shine for Wood Floors.
My house has wood floors throughout, and all the floors are about 40 years old. So the finish is kind of dull and worn off in places. That Holloway House Floor shine made the floor look beautiful. AND VERY VERY SLICK, or at least when you go running through the house to get the door.
: *(
Then your boyfriend laughs because he hears the big WHUMP from you falling and sees you unlock the door while still laying in the floor. Dignity hurt more than the fall.

Holloway House is the best. I just started using it a little while back after using Murphy's forever. Read the faq section in the link listed below. I will never go back to Murphys for floors and I dont use vinegar. Take the time to research this and you will be glad you did.

We have hardwood floors and we use murphy's oil soap on a regular basis,no harm done. I would be pretty piss*d if it did tho beings its made for cleanning wood. O.o Another option would be to use the wet jet wood cleanning solution, works pretty good and smells nice 2. :)

Murphy's Oil Soap, or any other soapy water solution will eventually ruin the finish. Wipe off the water with a dry mop or cloth as soon as possible after washing. Try using Windex from a spray bottle, followed by a dry mop instead. You will get a very shiny finish, and it is safe.

I use Murphy's oil soap on my wooden floors all the time. Nothing happened to them yet. That's what the soap was made for.

It's the best. It's bleach, ammonia, or Pine-Sol
that is bad for floors.
Sometimes, I spray furniture polish on the
wood floors and use a dustmop. Gives
a nice shine, although it's a little laborious to
spray that much.

Murphys Oil Soap is made for wood!! Why would it ruin the finish? You have to make sure you clean it..by rinsing the floor too! I use it all the time on my dinnette but I have to use clean rinse water afterwards. It will remain sticky if you don't rinse it.

If you had your floors professionally done and they are under warranty, read the documentation carefully. Murphy's is one of the few "cleaners" that can void hardwood floor warranties if used. There are many other good brand name cleaners out there that are great for cleaning and conditioning hardwood floors.
