Wouldn't you say that a non white person calling a white person a racist because they are white, is racism itself?

I think your point is that "reverse racism" is on the upswing. But that's not to say it's more prevailant. Just that it's less taboo, therfore, more visable.

On TV, for example: we'd see blacks making fun of a white boy calling him "Opie" & that seems socially acceptable, but you'd never see, on TV, a white man calling a black man "Buckwheat" or "Amos."

But I'm sure there are a lot of guys making such jokes in private.

absolutely.

it seems like racism has been reversed and it's definition has been totally twisted in the minds of the general public.

Lots of people try to play the "race card" whenever something doesn't go their way, and it is completely abused. It is ridiculous that people can claim that they are being opressed just because they are of another ethnicity.
It is also completely wrong how there can be a double standard for so many things. People of a certain group can say a particular word or phrase and it is fine, but if a white person says it, it automatically becomes derogatory and racist.

It is all a matter of people taking advantage of the law. These days people are willing to sue for anything they can, and they aren't afraid to take advantage of their race, even when it has absolutely nothing to do with the actual issue.

Yeah but that doesn't mean racism is getting out of hand. Lots of people do and say things that are racist and don't think that they are...including white people. You should be more concerned with more serious acts of racism.

I would say that giving a person an advantage in hiring , scholarships or scholastic average because of race is racism.

Affirmative Action has been institutionalized racism for 30 yrs.

Racism is ALREADY out of hand.

I don't believe in "reverse racism". A generalization about anybody based on the color of their skin ("race" if you will) is still racism. The fact that many black people still see white people as racist, is racism in itself. Relations will never get better until black leaders stop telling black people that white people hate them.

No. Racism is race prejudice plus power. People of color have not historically had the power in our society, white people still maintain the power. Just look at who runs our country. The majority are still white men. The same is true of the leadership in most of our institutions.
What you are describing is prejudice.

yes, it is terrible, but lets not confuse truth with racism. they are totally different subjects. most people who cry racism, are actually not wanting to hear the truth but what they wish were true. they should work to change the truth to the way they would like it to be perceived....

Labeling anyone just because of their ethnicity or just because they are a member of a certain culture, or religion is bigotry. Bigotry can be practiced by anyone. I don't think it's getting worse. At least not where I live. Most people in my city get along regardless of heritage.
