I loved the whalers and was crushed when they moved to NC. I still root for them though, and think it's great they are doing so well. I guess its easier for me since I have never lived in CT. I only liked them because we don't have pro hockey where I live (cincinnati) and no the Boo Jackets don't count.

The way I heard it, they moved because the city would not give the team a new stadium. So they went somewhere that would buy one for them. Talking to people that lived there and were fans, they said that attendence was great and the team had a loyal fan base. It was basically the owners greed that caused the team to relocate. As I said, this what I have heard, not what I know. Anyone with info please feel free to correct.
On a related topic: in NHL video games, why does every team that relocated (jets-coyotes, nordiques-avalanche, northstars-stars) allow you to unlock the old cities uniforms BUT NEVER THE WHALERS?!! I mean, you can even get the Atlanta Flames when using the Calgary Flames. Is this some kind of conspiracy or what?

We'll considering that both Ronnie Francis, Kevin Dineen and most of the original Whalers are gone, I'm happy for them. It's Hartford's own fault that the team left anyway. I mean, geesz, you have to be a pretty small market for NC to look better.

Are you kidding. I went to a playoff game in 86 and the civic center was 1/3 empty. Besides, the roof fell in, why not build a new arena. It sucked.
