I will be traveling in late July to Mexico City (DF). This will be the first time that I have been to Mexico. I speak fluent Spanish and I'm knowledgeable of what I want to see, but I'm uncomfortable having never been. Would anyone be willing to correspond (via e-mail, et al)?

I would like to help but cant since I dont live in Mexico city (DF). I do however live in Mexico and will say this for sure. If you travelling for the first time to Mexico why in the world are you going to Mexico city. Do you know how dangerous it can get depending where you are within the DF areas. Even Mexicans dont just go for vacations to Mexico city unless they go to visit have someone who already lives there or is willing to show them around. I am not saying that people havent done it and not that it cant be done but surely not by me all on my own. I have been there several times but I know people who live there. Good luck....and be very careful.

Coming to Mexico is not so bad... Just don't go on dark streets at midnight, don't eat "tacos de suadero" at the street and try not to go out using jewelry, but I'm sure you'll have a great time!

The first time I went out of Mexico I was also puzzled, but I discovered that traveling to other countries is a great experience.

Try to contact the Mexico City tourism office (www.df.gob.mx) or
the Secretaría de Turismo (don't know the web page, but type "Secretaria de Turismo Mexico" in Yahoo).

Personally, I think Chui is being a little dramatic. I have been in Mexico City several times, traveled pretty extensively in most parts of it, and only lost my wallet once.

Watch your wallet and other valuables when you are getting on and off the subway. The thieves are very good. If you speak fluent Spanish, you'll be fine. The subway system is very user friendly, you don't even have to be able to read to get around.

I love the DF, it's one of my favorite places.
Say hello to the Cafe Popular on Cinco de Mayo.
