That is a widely spread urban legend. The URL below gives more background on it. The Mythbusters also investigated this urban legend to see if you could possibly die from such a thing. As I recall, Jamie volunteered, was painted, and started feeling really lousy. So they concluded that even if you couldn't die, it wasn't a great idea.

Jill Masterson in Goldfinger. This is an Urban Legend and has no validity. The original Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz played by Buddy Ebsen (Yes, The Beverly Hillbillies Buddy Ebsen) had to quit the movie because he had a severe allergic reaction to the metal paint and nearly died on set.
However; nobody has died during filming due to body paint.

I'm not sure if anyone died, but the original actor that was supposed to play the tin man had an allergic reaction to the paint. And yes you could die or at least get very ill from the wrong kind of paint being applied to your entire body.It has nothing to do with breathing but in fact the absorption of nasty chemicals through your skin.(I've been a painting contractor for 17 years)

Urban Legend. In
Goldfinger, after secretary Jill Masterson betrays her boss, the evil Auric Goldfinger, he kills her in style by painting her entire body gold. As James Bond explains when Masterson's body is discovered, covering a person with paint will cause death because the body "breathes" through the skin. He then goes on to state that professional dancers know to leave a small patch of unpainted skin at the base of the spine to prevent their falling victim to asphyxiation.
Although it was still widely believed at the time Goldfinger was made (1964) that we "breathe" through our skin and that closing off all the pores in one's body would result in a quick Mmm . . . gold death, we now know this to be false.

The original Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz did. I think. He got an allergic reaction or something from the paint, but I don't know if he died. It might say on www.imdb.com. They have good information on a lot of movies.

No one died to my knowledge.
There was an actress in James bond that experienced being quite ill having her whole body painted gold.

Nobody in real life. It was the fictional character in Goldfinger.
Re the above tin man reference, Buddy Ebsen was originally slated to play the tin man in Wizard of Oz, but was allergic to the paint.

You are thinking of Shirely Eaton from Goldfinger.
She actually did not die from being painted by gold paint but that hasn't stopped the myth from circulating.
Here's a picture of her as "Goldfinger" as well as information about what she did after that movie besides dying.

it was an actress from a james bond movie, but its an urban legend. No one ever died from getting painted. You breathe with your lungs, not your pores
