I am no friend of Al-Qaeda or other terrorists. But killing seven or eight men on the ground with four 500-kg bombs from two fighter bombers does not qualify as an act of heroism.
I also doubt that the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi will make a great difference in Iraq. He had been there for a long time and will most certainly have established a command structure below him as one does in a war. So while the one known man in charge of Al-Qaeda in Iraq is gone, we have no idea who is his successor. But I am absolutely sure that this man is already in place as we speak here.
We should never forget that Al-Qaeda was formed, trained and financed by the CIA for operations against the Russians in Afghanistan. There was no Al-Qaeda activity in Iraq before the US invasion, and now it is one of the hotbeds...
I am not the only one who wonders which wires are crossed in this scenario. Serious independent analysts have stated many times that there is no evidence that the CIA ever really lost control over Al-Qaeda. All their activities have given Bush his excuses for starting illegal wars and helped him to get his hands on the Iraqi oil and get a gas pipeline built through Afganhistan.
There will be not a bit more freedom in Iraq or Afgahnistan just because one Al-Qaeda lieutenant is killed. The only way for the Iraqis to have freedom is the complete and unconditional withdrawal of all US and Colaition forces from their country.

Please people. Wake up and taste the oat bran. He was never in it to live. He knew upon his death he would be a martyr, plus he believed he will go to Paradise. You do not think he was grooming one or more person to step into his place? Al Qaeda was suppose to be crushed when they were kicked out of Afghanistan.
Quite simple there has been only 2 incidence where an insurgency was put down militarily,(and you can hardly call the Bay of Pigs an insurgency, they never got a foot hold). The only true insurgency to be put down by military action was Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge by the N. Vietnamese regulars. The IRA was never defeated my arms, nor was FARC in Columbia who after 17 years or more is still going strong. Not the Tamil Tigers of Sri Lanka who after 25 years was only slowed down by a tsunami. The Palestinians under the lopsided burden they have have not given up.
And how can you win the hearts an minds of a people when you go in there an murder civilians as payback? What government the knuckleheads in Washington want them to have and the government THEY want for themselves seem to be 2 different things. If you want to be true to your word, you allow them to have the freedom to have what ever government they want, a communist one, a theocracy, a king on a throne. You liberate not dictate. With Haditha and many incidence like it. There is no need for a Zarqawi to fuel opponents.

Someone will take his place. Sad fact of life. It was people in his own network that led us to him. Hmmm someone looking for a promotion maybe? Set him up so they could take his place. They really would do something like that, don't forget that is how they operate. Our best hope is that this new guy isn't as good. Yeah he'll get killed off by his people soon enough if he can't do the job BUT it will give us a little time.

I would imagine so. This guy coordinated all of the suicide bombers and IEDs in Iraq, so there is a good chance that the attacks will decrease and/or not be as horrible as they were in the past. But that is just my own guess.
