I'm about to move into one also. I chose to go through and apartment locator, because it's free and I don't have the time to search myself. You don't have to look for anything, they do it for you. Just tell them how much you wanna pay and what area of Houston you wanna live. Go to yahoo local type in apartment locators and find one near your zip code.

Try checking out www.har.com and look under their residential leases. Another excellent site would be http://houston.craigslist.org in their Housing section.

Try http://www.realtor.com and click on rentals. You can narrow down your search and only see homes that are exactly what you want.
