Only depends one one thing....Who's land is it on. Not which way it faces, where it is located from the door , or where the the posts are, or which way the slats face. It is only about land. If it sits on the line, and most don't it is a common fence .

Usualy facing outwards of your front door the right hand side fence of your garden is your responsibility but it depends how your deeds are set out.

Normally you own the fence to the right as you look out of your back door !

Ask the landlord to check the Title Deeds of the house, if they don't know already.
