You know, like from Mark Twain, or maybe an original? Mine is an old Indian (Native American) proverb: "Praying is good. But always paddle away from the rocks."

"Be not afraid of growing slowly. Be only afraid of standing still" - my favorite. And yours reminds me of another one - an old English saying " Hope for the best, but be ready for the worst" Works perfectly in life.
