Why do we care so much about what celebs think? Johnny Depp has said some stupid, anti-American things, too, but I didn't watch "Pirates" for his politics. It would take a lot more than some stupid talk to scare me away from an actor I like. Ed Asner is a Socialist. So WHAT?
But I don't have problems with those who've sworn off the Dixie Chicks forever. If their statements spoil it all for them, that's their opinion.
The entertainment has worked so hard to sell its artist, not only based on performance, but on image, too. If an artist's image changes, that will naturally change they're popularity.
As far as those who claim the Dixie Chick's freedom of speech is being violate, I want to ask "WHAT HAPPENED! Did the Dixie Chicks get sent to jail? Did the government ban their music? No?"
Oh, that's right. People who were offended by their statements choose to express their opinions by not buying Dixie Chick music. Both were exercising their freedom of speech.
The Dixie Chicks had every right to say what they felt, & their fans had every right to say they wouldn't buy Dixie Chicks CDs anymore. BOTH are exercising their freedom of speech!

I wish that they would leave on their own, they don't have a clue of the cost of FREEDOM just like the other Hollywood DemiGods. I know so many people that gave up movies because of the likes of them. Dixie Chics aren't even from down here in the south so they are fake all around!
I wouldn't give any of them a drop of water if they were laying on the ground begging for it!

i think the correct word she used was 'i'm ashamed the PRESIDENT is from texas" . That in no general way suggest that she hates being american. She just doesnt resonate well with the politics of bush and his administration. If you are on the other side of the fence then ur as marginalized as her and equally stupid and doesnt understand the concept/consequences of "free speech". Cant u think of something more interesting to ask?

What's the point of being an American if you don't even believe in our basic ideals of free speech? She didn't say "I hate America." She said she was ashamed of our President--that's a huge difference.
I don't get you people who wrap yourselves in the flag while completely disregarding simple American principles. Lots of people disagree with my ideas, but the idea of questioning their patriotism because of it is disturbing. Who else gets shipped off? Anyone who vocally dislikes our tax policy? All liberals and Democrats? Maybe even lots of Republicans who actually understand what it means to live in the U.S.?
Have fun living all by yourself in America, bub. I bet it'll be fun to roam the isles of Walmart alone, at least.

We can ban buying there products and going to their shows. With this it would in turn brake them and cause them to go bankrupt. Which in turn would cause them to be hunted down by the IRS for tax evasion and that would in turn want them to seek hideout in another country. At which time someone would blow up where there hideout was and then there would be no more Dixie Hicks.

I'll give a buck, too! Let's send them to Mexico! They might be more proud of El Presidente Fox! Its too bad the media gave them so much attention on their new album. I wish that darned media would just keep their mouth shut every now and then!

Why? Because they spoke their minds? Why is it okay to send people off to war to fight for our freedom of speech, but it's not okay for us to practice it? A little hypocritical to me. I thought they should have shut their mouths too...but they had every right to say what they did. Your question is rhetorical and narrow minded.
