Depending on what your colors are, your mother would usually wear a classy, partially sequined (or not) dress made for the mother of the bride or groom. A bridal shop can help you. If you can't afford that, go into one and get ideas from what they have...then go find something sort of like it in a less-expensive store.

Your mother should dress for the occasion, but take her cue from the level of formality..if it is a formal wedding, then formal attire is required..She could simply where are silk skirt suit or dress..

your mom should go to Saks fifth avenue and the have many dresses that are age appropriate or she should go to neiman Marcus and they have jackets that have matching skirts and shirts that she would love for her daughters wedding

if you go to a bridal shop, they have a section of 'mother' friendly outfits...most look very mantronly, depending on how old, young, conservative, body conscious she is, she may want to wear something less 'motherly'.....but try there, and then maybe macy's, nordstrom's, big dept. stores......
