I am 37 weeks, and was dialated to a 2 am 80% effaced last week, now every few minutes I get a really sharp pain in between my legs, does anyone know what these could be? I know they aren't contractions, and sometimes i get this pain during a contraction, and at other times it's just random. My contractions have been every 5 minutes for a weeks now, but they aren't so strong that i can't walk through them, and I have already been to the doc for it. I just need to know what these pains could be, does dialation hurt or thinning out?

If you are getting contractions every few minutes, then the pain is most likely due to the contractions. When your uterus squeezes, it may be pushing the baby southward and putting pressure on the cervix which can cause sharp pain.

The good thing is that this means things are really close.

My suggestion (and I don't mean to be crude) is the have sex tonight. Labor for two of my three children began within 12 hours of having sex at or near term.

Best of luck to you!

The pain is probably from the baby's head pressing down on your cervix - I know what it feels like because I had that with my pregnancy. It was painful down there, and there were times that I could barely walk or even get up from a sitting position. The day after I had the most intense pain, I gave birth to my little girl.

So it's totally normal and is one of your signs telling you that you're almost there - at the end of your pregnancy and the beginning of labor and delivery. Goodluck with everything and congratulations on your baby!!

hahaha are you ready for this?? i had these same pains while pregnant with both of my girls. i asked my ob and he said that they are actually the babies head moving against the cervix. he said to not worry and just sit down or push the baby to move it off of your cervix...hahaha...dont worry you will be done soon!
