I just wanted to know the cost associated with having a laptop on for a whole month. I was wondering what the expected electricity bill would be if I did this. My laptop is a dell inspiron bought 2 years ago. I would have a few web pages open and would be downloading. Also I would have a wifi reciever on.

Well, the average laptop consumption per hour is about 12w/hr.

12w * 24 * 31 = 8928 w/ 1000= 8.928 Kw.

In 2002, the cost was estimated at $.12/Kw. So, if we're pessimistic and say $.2/Kw,

$1.7856 per month.

Don't break your wallet ;)

Well, there are other questions on Yahoo Answers that relate to your question and the simple answer is that it depends on sleep/hibernation mode, power consumption etc. Most of all, it's important to know how much you pay for electricity, and whether you will be charging up anywhere besides home (e.g. office, starbucks, etc.)

depends on the power supply, look at the bottom of it and see the rating in watts, what ever it is multiply it by 720 for the cost for a 30 days and them look at your esb bill to see the cost per watt and there you go that the cost for 30 days

Rating (watts) X 720 (hours in a month) X cost (per watt) = money

Find the total wattage in kilowatts the computer uses and multiply by the number of hours in a month for Kilowatt-hours. Then muliply by the price you pay for electricity.
