Both part of the EU. Both support each other.
Only hate each other when it comes to football due to England beating Germany 4-2 in the 1966 World Cup final.

Lots of mistakes were made in World war two by both sides. Mostly because of hate. of course Hitler was also psychotic! But Churchill had a choice at one stage of the war. He could bomb Germany's synthetic oil facilities (as the President of the US advised) - no oil and the war machine would have stopped. But instead the idiot bombed innocent people in Berlin and Dresden. He preached hate on the radio to the people. When we went to war with the Argentina over the Falklands - we didn't attack civilians - although a submarine was there armed with nuclear missiles. Instead we sent the fleet - set up an exclusion zone and fought serviceman against serviceman. Slightly more civilised kind of war. Incidentally, after the 2ND World war many POW's in England stayed - they didn't want to go back to Germany. In the 1960's I was involved in a movement to help German people escape Russian rule in East Germany and escape to the West - and that wasn't that long after the war - throughout the 1950's the media carried war stories and the movies were all war movies.

I don't know much about the "global" relations between the both countries.
Here in northern Germany, sometimes, we like the English more than our south German's from Bavaria...
oh, stop... there is still football ;-)
