My friends and I are thinking of moving down there. I love the beach and I am sure I will enjoy the slower paced lifestyle of the South, compared to Baltimore City, MD. I hope that Wilmington has a lot to offer in way of entertainment, jobs openings, and atmosphere. What are your thoughts?

To begin, I am a Wilmingtonian who works downtown at the front desk of a hotel. I meet many people (mostly Yankees, not that there's anything wrong with that) everyday who are "checking out the place" in order to decide whether to move or not. Like anywhere, there are some pros and there are some cons. First, the bad news. Per capita, Wilmington has more crimes OF ALL TYPES, than New York City, Atlanta, and most all major cities. Also, the cost of living in Wilmington is very high, and there are few jobs to support the lifestyle. NOW, the pros :)! Obviously, the one that stands out is the beach. Beautiful wide beaches with dunes, and many piers to go fishing. There is a major university, UNCW, that I truly respect as an institution. There's a high degree of culture, arts, and history in Wilmington and it would take you years to experience it all. Wilmington is also filled with terrific southern hospitality and friendliness you won't find anywhere else. Hope this helped!

I live in Richmond, VA and Im moving to Wilmington next week. It is gorgeous. Only problem Im having is there are not many jobs and the ones there are do not pay good. There are several temp agencies down there that can find you a job between 10-15 which is what Im going to do. Good Luck!

Yes...this area is nice. The beaches are great. Wilmington is busy for me, but, coming from Baltimore it probably won't seem that bad to you. There are jobs for those that want to work. People are friendly, and schools are good.

It's hard to find a good job there, so make sure you find one before you move, but other than that it's my favorite place in the south!
