Girl, I've heard that Beyonce song "Check on it" like 7 times in the past 3 hours.
It's because the radio station either goes by the playlist given to them by the directors, they go on requests, or they're controlled by the devil, aka, Clear Channel.
F Clear Channel. Just F 'em.

Depends on the station. Rock stations play rock, Country stations play country, Classical Stations play . . . . . . . etc.
Now if you mean repeat the same song over and over again, it's for a bunch of reasons.
1. A promoter got the station to do repeat plays.
2. Callers request the song.
3. The Disc jockey personally likes the song.
4. Repeater tape. Sometimes they pre-record certain time slots when they are out on promotion tours.
There are more than this, I'm sure. Call and ask the station manager . But I hear ya!

probably because everyone is stealing music off the internet these days so nobody wants to create any new music so we're just stuck with the same few new songs that actually come out these days...It seems like 2 years ago there would be a new song every week and now it's like a new song every month! I'm starting to get bored with music, I've been listening to the stuff from the 90's just waiting for something new to come out!

Well because it's all about payola trying to get the wack songs played over and over.sort of like brain washing so that people will go out and buy the garbage they are pushing.
my suggestion is to not listen to the radio just go out and buy music of artists that interests you because the radio will not let anything real be played on the radio.
Satellite radio is good because they play all kinds of music not just the same old crap all day everyday.

Because commercial FM has been in a freefall decline in quality for the last twenty years. Huge corporations now own most of these stations, and all they care about is ad revenue, not about music. It's lowest common denominator marketing.
Vote your displeasure about this with your fingers & your dollars. Tune out those crappy FM stations, and check out college radio (usually at the left end of the dial). College radio is usually commercial free and they play what they want. Or, online check out www.xpn.org from Phila, or www.wrsu.org from Rutgers.
Have fun :-)

Because the companies that own them are paid by record companies to play a set of specially released songs (singles) from any given album. They usually only release 3, maybe 4 singles from an album. The idea is you will hear these songs like an ad so you'll buy the album.

Radio stations now cater to advertisers, since they are the ones providing revenue to the stations, which are owned by corporations. Therefore, the program directors are now at the mercy of the advertising clients. The desires of the listener are secondary. I agree with you. It drives me nuts, too.

They assume their listeners are morons with the memories of a goldfish that won't notice that the song is being played for the tenth time that day.
Switch to a station with a "No repeats 9 to 5" promise

The average listener only logs 13-22 minutes of listening time a day (typically in the car) and they like to hear songs that they know.
